Taking a trip over the Golden Gate Bridge will take you to the majestic Muir Woods National Monument
that is filled with gigantic redwoods. This old-growth redwood forest will spark a sense of wonder in
your children when they see them for the first time. Try to get to the park early and the best days to go
are during the week. Make sure you and your children wear comfortable clothes and be aware that there
is no cell phone reception in the park itself.

Bring your children to the Randall Museum to help your children get a heavy dose of science, natural
history, and even the arts. The museum has a ton of activities and events, many of which are either free
or at a low cost. Check out what exhibits are on available on their display and allow your children the
opportunity to explore the interactive showcases. Your children will enjoy playing and learning about the
world around them, and admission is free!

Get a taste of history by taking a day trip to Old Sacramento. After the Gold Rush began in 1848, the
city of Sacramento was created and brought in thousands of people from the east who were looking to
strike it rich. In the 1960s, the city decided to save the historic buildings that were created during the
days of the Gold Rush and it exists now as a historic landmark. Travel down the dusty streets of the
8 block section of Sacramento and stop into one of the many privately owned businesses.

The San Francisco Botanical Garden is one of the most diverse collections of plants in the world and
is sure to fill your children with wonder. It’s amazing that so many exotic plants are able to survive in
a garden in the city, but the climate of San Francisco makes it possible. The gardens are free if
you’re a resident of San Francisco or the county, so be prepared to bring your license to show proof
of residency.
